The last two years with the pandemic have weighed heavily on the healthcare providers; this pre-course will help to bring well-being back to providers who attend, to be equipped with tools that can help prevent burnout and compassion fatigue as well as bring work-life integration. Clinician burnout is a problem in medicine with far-reaching consequences, leading to an increased awareness of the importance of provider wellness on both the personal and institutional level. Although some hospitals have developed formal wellness programs, there remain many pediatric hospitalists without access to such resources. In this dynamic and active program, we will provide attendees with the means to both assess and enhance their professional well-being. Leaders in provider wellness will share their experience, and interactive modalities including yoga, meditation, reflective journaling.

This is the tenth annual meeting of the PHM Fellowship Directors Council. Meeting invitees are fellowship directors, associate directors, and representatives of programs in development. The Council aims to grow high-quality PHM training programs nationally, by establishing best practices and preparing fellowships to achieve and maintain accreditation. The annual meeting includes faculty development sessions as well as working meeting time for the Council’s Assessment, Curriculum, Faculty Development, Recruitment and Marketing, and Research Subcommittees.

Course Description

Newborn care and delivery room management are part of the Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine Core Competencies. Increasingly, the role of delivery attendance and newborn resuscitation is being allocated to pediatric hospitalists instead of neonatologists. Pediatric hospitalists must be prepared to be the first responder for any type of delivery or newborn nursery emergency that may occur at their site. In this course, participants will help lead a simulated resuscitation, perform hands-on procedural skills including airway management and UVC placement, and review “Golden Hour” practices for managing the delivery of a preterm infant.

Course Description

This course is designed for healthcare personnel (physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers and dentists) who provide procedural sedation for children outside the operating room. The course focuses on patient selection and risk assessment, general approach to procedural sedation, sedation monitoring, sedative drug pharmacology and the recognition and management of the most common sedation-related adverse events.

Course Description

Early career and mid-career awardees are rapidly increasing within the PHM field. As more hospitalists are submitting grants it is important for them to understand the current review process. The most effective grants are the ones in which investigators can preemptively address concerns study section members may have. Therefore, knowledge regarding the process of NIH/AHRQ review process from beginning to end is incredibly helpful when writing. The objective of this workshop is to acquaint participants with the grant review process as conducted by study sections.
